The Eureka City Council convened in regular session at the City Building on November 5, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Scott Punke called the meeting to order and led The Pledge of Allegiance and then directed the City Clerk to call the roll. Present were Aldermen Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, V. Punke, and Kupfer. Alderman Meares was absent. Also in attendance were Lynn Hinnen, Treasurer; Marilyn Walter, City Clerk; Anne Sandvik, City Administrator; and Jim Lehman, Public Works Director.
Moved by Hinnen, second by Zeltwanger, to approve the minutes of the October 15, 2007, regular meeting of the City Council. Passed on roll call vote with Hinnen, Zeltwanger, , Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, V. Punke, and Kupfer all voting Aye.
The Mayor asked for public comments on any action to be taken on Agenda items. There were none.
Moved by Waters, second by V. Punke, to approve and pay the bills as the City’s obligation in the amount of $212,107.31. Passed on roll call vote with Waters, V. Punke, Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Hinthorne, Prather, and Kupfer all voting Aye.
Moved by Waters, second by Kupfer, to approve Ordinance 07-15 City of Eureka Tax Levy Ordinance to levy taxes to be collected in fiscal year 2008-2009 in the amount of $287,928—an increase of $5,261 This was recommended by the Budget Committee. Passed on roll call vote with Waters, Kupfer, Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Hinthorne, Prather, and V. Punke all voting Aye.
Moved by Hinnen, second by V. Punke, to go into Executive Session pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(5) for the purpose of discussing the purchase or lease of real property for use of the public body. Passed on roll call vote with Hinnen, V. Punke, Zeltwanger, Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, and Kupfer all voting Aye.
Roll call upon return from Executive Session: present were Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, V. Punke, and Kupfer. Alderman Meares was absent.
During the Executive Session, the purchase of property was discussed. No decision was made at this time.
Committee Reports:
Chairman Waters of the Budget Committee: No report
Chairman Meares of the Administration and Personnel Committee: Mr. Meares was absent.
Chairman Hinnen of the Enterprise Committee: No report
Chairman Waters of the Maintenance Committee: The new leaf machine will not be here until December or January so won’t be used this season. The committee will meet on Thursday, November 8, at 6:00 p.m.
Chairman V. Punke of the Public Safety Committee: No report
Chairman Hinnen of the Park and Recreation Committee: The next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m.
Chairman Kupfer of the Economic Development Committee: The next meeting will be on Monday, November 12, at 6:00 p.m.
Chairman Mayor Punke of the Liquor Committee: No report
Chair Hinthorne of the Communications Committee: This committee will be meeting with the Economic Development Committee on Monday, November 12, at 6:00 p.m.
