MINUTES OF THE EUREKA CITY COUNCIL MEETING
January 7, 2008

The Eureka City Council convened in regular session at the City Building on January 7, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Scott Punke called the meeting to order and led The Pledge of Allegiance and then directed the City Clerk to call the roll. Present were Aldermen Waters, V. Punke, Kupfer, Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Meares, and Hinthorne. Alderman Prather was absent. Also in attendance were Marilyn Walter, City Clerk; Anne Sandvik, City Administrator; Jim Lehman, Public Works Director; and Chief Al Misener.

Moved by Waters, second by Hinnen, to approve the minutes of the December 17, 2007, regular meeting of the City Council. Passed on roll call vote with Waters, Hinnen, V. Punke, Kupfer, Zeltwanger, Meares, and Hinthorne all voting Aye.

The Mayor asked for public comments on any action to be taken on Agenda items. There were none.

Moved by Waters, second by Kupfer, to approve and pay the bills as the City’s obligation in the amount of $83,245.96. One bill for $385 to Blunier Implement was deleted due to duplication in the Maintenance Department bills. Passed on roll call vote with Waters, Kupfer, V. Punke, Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Meares, and Hinthorne all voting Aye.

Committee Reports:

Chairman Waters of the Budget Committee: Waters reminded the Committee Chairs to set their budget meetings.

Chairman Meares of the Administration and Personnel Committee: No report

Chairman Hinnen of the Enterprise Committee: No report

Chairman Waters of the Maintenance Committee:  The next meeting is scheduled for January 23 at 6:00 p.m. Waters commended the city employees for working over the holiday removing snow and for a job well done. Diane indicated a concern from a citizen.

Chairman V. Punke of the Public Safety Committee: The next meeting is set for January 24 at 6:00 p.m. The yearly report from the Chief plus a 10-year statistic report is in the packet.

Chairman Hinnen of the Park and Recreation Committee: No report

Chairman Kupfer of the Economic Development Committee: The next meeting will be January 17 at 7:00 p.m. with the Planning Commission to discuss a proposed expansion of the Hospital.

Chairman Mayor Punke of the Liquor Committee: No report

Chair Hinthorne of the Communications Committee: Diane reported that the business categories for the website are almost ready to be put on the City web page. This will be very helpful. Many citizens accessed the Municipal Pool Questionnaire from the website.

New Business: The Mayor read a press release concerning a candidate debate to be held at Eureka College on January 20 at 5:00 p.m.

Public Comments: None

There being no further business to come before the Council the meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
