MINUTES OF THE EUREKA CITY COUNCIL MEETING
July 21, 2008

The Eureka City Council convened in regular session at the City Building on July 21, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Scott Punke called the meeting to order and led The Pledge of Allegiance and then directed the City Clerk to call the roll. Present were Aldermen Hinnen, Meares, Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, V. Punke, Kupfer, and Zeltwanger. Also in attendance were Lynn Hinnen, Treasurer; Anne Sandvik, City Administrator; Marilyn Walter, City Clerk; and Chief Al Misener.

 

Moved by Hinnen, second by V. Punke, to approve the minutes of the July 7, 2008, regular meeting of the City Council as amended. Passed on roll call vote with Hinnen, Meares, Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, V. Punke, Kupfer, and Zeltwanger all voting Aye.

 

The Mayor asked for public comments on any action to be taken on Agenda items. There were none.

 

Moved by Waters, second by V. Punke, to approve and pay the bills as the City’s obligation in the amount of $72,970.91. Passed on roll call vote with Hinnen, Meares, Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, V. Punke, Kupfer, and Zeltwanger all voting Aye.

 

Moved by Waters, second by Meares, to accept the Treasurer’s Report as presented for the month ending June 30, 2008. Passed on roll call vote with Hinnen, Meares, Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, V. Punke, Kupfer, and Zeltwanger all voting Aye.

 

Moved by Hinnen, second by Waters, to consider the recommendation of the Planning Commission and to approve the Memorandum of Understanding Agreement, Waiver, and Release for Single Family Residential Construction. This will allow construction of single family residential homes in the College Park Subdivision prior to completion and acceptance of the subdivision by the City. A maximum number of six (6) single family residential properties would be issued a Memorandum of Understanding, Agreement and Waiver and Release. This is being approved only for up to six single-family residential properties within this subdivision and not individual properties or owners within the City. Passed on roll call vote with Hinnen, Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, V. Punke, and Zeltwanger all voting Aye. Meares and Kupfer voted Nay.

 

Moved by Hinnen, second by Kupfer, to approve the low bid from G.A. Rich for $9,638 to remove the old hydrant and replace the fire hydrant at Mitchell and Curtis Court. Engineers estimate was $10,250. Passed on roll call vote with Hinnen, Meares, Hinthorne, Prather, Waters, V. Punke, Kupfer, and Zeltwanger all voting Aye.

 

Committee Reports:

Chairman Waters of the Budget Committee: No report

Chairman Meares of the Administration and Personnel Committee: No report

 

Chairman Hinnen of the Enterprise Committee: Meeting Tuesday, July 22, at 6:30 p.m.

 

Chairman Waters of the Maintenance Committee: Lots of wind last night. A few residents called to thank the city crews for the quick pick up of limbs today.

 

Chairman V. Punke of the Public Safety Committee: No report

Chairman Hinnen of the Park and Recreation Committee: No report

Chairman Kupfer of the Economic Development Committee: No report

Chairman Mayor Punke of the Liquor Committee: No report

Chair Hinthorne of the Communications Committee: Review of fundraisers for the Sesquicentennial:

            August 1, Chicken Dinner, $8 for each ticket.

            August 23, Reagan Fest—will have a booth with Sesquicentennial merchandise

            September 27, Lawn Mower Poker Run

            October (date to be set), Bowling fundraiser at Bowling Alley

            November 10, Pizza Hut will give 10 percent of each order from 5 to 8 p.m.

 

New Business: Three public meetings will be held for public input for the municipal pool:

            August 19, 7 p.m., at the County Court House Annex. Topic: Aquatic analysis, features, site location.

            Sept. 16, 7 p.m., at Eureka Middle School. Topic: Review chosen features, costs, funding options.

            Oct. 21, 7 p.m. at Eureka Middle School. Topic: Overall review of pool features, location, cost, funding.

 

Public Comments: Aaron Schock, candidate for House of Representatives, has asked Mayor Punke to be on the tarmac with him to greet President Bush arrives on Friday, July 25.

 

There being no further business to come before the Council the meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
