The Eureka City Council convened in regular session at the City Building on February 15, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Scott Punke called the meeting to order and led The Pledge of Allegiance and then directed the Deputy City Clerk to call the roll. Present were Aldermen Hinnen, Hinthorne, Prather, Sancken, Waters, Meares and Zeltwanger. Alderman Kupfer was absent. Also in attendance were J.J. Davis, Deputy City Clerk, Chief Eric Luckey, Rusty Klaus, Supervisor of Street and Maintenance; Anne Sandvik, Administrator, and Officer’s Wayne Lenover and Kim Jones.
Moved by Meares, second by Hinnen, to approve the minutes of the February 1, 2010, regular meeting of the City Council. Passed on roll call vote with Meares, Hinnen, Hinthorne, Prather, Sancken, Waters and Zeltwanger all voting Aye.
The Mayor asked for public comments on any action to be taken on Agenda items. There were none.
Moved by Waters, second by Meares, to approve and pay the bills as the City’s obligation in the amount of $45,347.88. Passed on roll call vote with Waters, Meares, Hinthorne, Prather, Sancken, Waters, and Zeltwanger all voting Aye.
Moved by Waters, second by Hinthorne, to accept the Treasurer’s Report as presented for the month ending January 31, 2010. Passed on roll call vote with Waters, Hinthorne, Hinnen, Prather, Sancken, Meares, and Zeltwanger all voting Aye.
Moved by Zeltwanger, second by Hinthorne to approve the hiring of Kim Jones as a full-time police officer for the City of Eureka. This is the recommendation of the Public Safety Committee. The Mayor welcomed Officer Jones to the City. Passed on roll call vote with Zeltwanger, Hinthorne, Hinnen, Prather, Sancken, Waters, and Meares all voting Aye.
Moved by Meares, second by Hinnen, to approve Ordinance 10-2. An ordinance designating the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer(s) and the guidelines for fulfilling the request for information on behalf of the City of Eureka. Passed on roll call vote with Meares, Hinnen, Hinthorne, Prather, Sancken, Waters, and Zeltwanger all voting Aye.
Committee Reports:
Chairman Waters of the Budget Committee: The committees are close to wrapping up their budgets and a budget committee meeting will be scheduled for the beginning of March.
Chairman Meares of the Administration and Personnel Committee: No Report
Chairman Hinnen of the Enterprise Committee: There is a meeting tomorrow night at 6:30.
Chairman Waters of the Maintenance Committee: Rusty’s office is coming along nicely, even though he has no time to spend in it. Reported that there are a lot of pot holes in town that need to be taken care of. The window in the backhoe blew out and needs to be replaced.
Chairman Zeltwanger of the Public Safety Committee: There is a meeting on Tuesday, February 23rd at 6:30 p.m.
Chairman Hinnen of the Park and Recreation Committee: There is a meeting on Thursday, February 18th at 6:00 p.m.
Chairman Kupfer of the Economic Development Committee: There is a meeting on Wednesday, February 17th at 6:00 p.m. An Ameren Cilco representative will be here to discuss choices for electrical providers for businesses, residential customers and churches and possibly setting up a Forum for the public to attend.
Chairman Mayor Punke of the Liquor Committee: No Report
Chair Hinthorne of the Communications Committee: No Report
