MINUTES OF THE EUREKA CITY COUNCIL MEETING
May 17, 2010
 

The Eureka City Council convened in regular session at the City Building on January May 17, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Scott Punke called the meeting to order and led The Pledge of Allegiance and then directed the City Clerk to call the roll. Present were Aldermen Kupfer, Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Hinthorne, Prather, Sancken, and Waters. Alderman Meares was absent. Also in attendance were Lynn Hinnen, Treasurer; Marilyn Walter, City Clerk; Anne Sandvik, City Administrator; Rusty Klaus, Supervisor of Street and Maintenance; and Chief Eric Luckey.

Moved by Hinnen, second by Kupfer, to approve the minutes of the May 3, 2010, regular meeting of the City Council. Passed on roll call vote Hinnen, Kupfer, Zeltwanger, Hinthorne, Prather, Sancken, and Waters all voting Aye.

The Mayor asked for public comments on any action to be taken on Agenda items. There were none.

Moved by Waters, second by Hinthorne, to approve and pay the bills as the City’s obligation in the amount of $54,560.43. Passed on roll call vote with Waters, Hinthorne, Kupfer, Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Prather, and Sancken all voting Aye.

Moved by Waters, second by Hinthorne, to accept the Treasurer’s Report as presented for the month ending April 30, 2010. Passed on roll call vote with Waters, Hinthorne, Kupfer, Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Prather, and Sancken and all voting Aye.

Moved by Zeltwanger, second by Hinnen, to approve the recommendation of the Public Safety Committee for the Woodford County Explorers to participate in the Ride Along program. The Explorers (ages 14-21) are allowed to ride along with Officers as part of their Law Enforcement experience. The City will receive an additional insured certificate of coverage for liability from the Explorers Post. Passed on roll call vote with Zeltwanger, Hinnen, Kupfer, Hinthorne, Prather, Sancken, and Waters all voting Aye.

Committee Reports:
Chairman Waters of the Budget Committee: No report

Chairman Meares of the Administration and Personnel Committee: Chairman was absent

Chairman Hinnen of the Enterprise Committee: No report

Chairman Waters of the Maintenance Committee: Rusty reported that the road repairs will be started soon. The rock at the Lake will be in by July 4th. The rock has been stock piled this year to save on gas. The Junk Day was today in Wards 3 and 4. Rusty said they will pick up things for a few days. This program will be reviewed soon.

Chairman Zeltwanger of the Public Safety Committee: Eric reported that Wayne Lenover and some other officers cleaned out the Police garage.

Chairman Hinnen of the Park and Recreation Committee: No report

Chairman Sancken of the Economic Development Committee: The Barbeque fundraiser for Eureka Fest on May 14 went well. The committee raised nearly $1,000. Another Barbeque will be on June 18. A meeting will be scheduled soon.

Chairman Mayor Punke of the Liquor Committee: No report

New Business: None
Public Comments: The Mayor reported that the ground breaking for the new Town and Country Healthcare offices will be held Tuesday, May 25, from 3 to 4 p.m. He encouraged all Council members and City officials to attend.

There being no further business to come before the Council the meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
