Eureka Business Association
Minutes - February 15, 2007

The February meeting was held at Maple Lawn with 13 in attendance. The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m. and introductions were made. The minutes of the last meeting were accepted for filing as presented, provided the treasurer’s balance as of 12/31/06 be changed to $6,201.63.

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer’s balance as of 1/31/06 was $10,058.21. Eldon Liabraaten said there are 9 paid new EBA members for the year.

Committee Reports:

Brighten Our Business: Vada Schertz reported that more help will be needed this year with the flowerpots. The work is easy, but physical, and even just 2 more male volunteers would make the job much easier. Duane Schroeder offered his assistance. The work is usually done around the second week in May.
Eureka Reagan Fest: Donna Sweeney reported that she will be able to help get the Fest running, but needs help with phone calls, letters, and other tasks. Katherine Arnold offered her assistance. Donna Sweeney said she would like for one person to take responsibility for the Fest. If anyone is interested, contact Donna or Lisa.

Economic Development Council –
No one was present from Economic Development. A suggestion was made to contact Greg Jackson.

City:
No one was present from the city.

Business Spotlight:
Ty Meiss of Waddell and Reed Financial Services spoke about his business. He has been a financial advisor for 15 years, and achieved his CFP designation in 1993. He helps people achieve their quality of life goals and financial security using a systematic, proven method and holistic approach. The process usually takes 4-6 weeks, and its value is guaranteed. Meiss also discussed his diverse product offering: IRA’s, mutual funds, retirement planning, and more. The hours are 9-5 Monday through Friday and by appointment. The phone number is 467-3183.

New Business:
Lilac Festival: Dawn Maloney and Katherine Arnold were present from the Lilac Festival. A motion was made and approved for the EBA to donate $1500.00 and thereby become a Lilac Festival sponsor for the year.
Eureka Community Guide: The Woodford County Journal is producing its second Eureka Community Guide. A motion was made and approved for the EBA to purchase the inside back page for $500.00. Heidi Bowman said that if anyone has information they would like to see in the guide, they should contact the Woodford County Journal, 467-3314.


Suggestions for New Members to Contact:
Eldon LiaBraaten stated that Rick Robinson has volunteered to serve as the new business ambassador.

Brief Business Update:
Donna Sweeney stated the EBA should voice concerns to the city about keeping businesses and events alive in Eureka. A suggestion was made for EBA members to begin attending city meetings. A discussion ensued about ways the EBA can boost businesses and stay proactive.
