The July meeting was held at the Eureka College Cerf Center with 17 members in attendance. The Meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m. The minutes of the last meeting were accepted for filing as presented.
Treasurer’s Report: Eldon LiaBraaten reported the balance was $7574.69.
Committee Reports:
4th of July: By all accounts the parade went well, and Rick Robison passed a front page story about the event from the Woodford County News Bulletin.
Eureka Reagan Fest: Kat Arnold said Donna Sweeney had requested that people be thinking of more ways to incorporate Ronald Reagan into the festival next year. Chuck Staley has ordered the signs that will be used to direct people to the high school in case of rain.
Taste of Eureka: Heidi Bowman said she heard back from six businesses so far that wish to participate in the Taste, and six businesses that have offered prizes for the drawing. She encouraged everyone to send in the forms.
City: Jim Meares said the city was taking bids on the water mains and for the new leaf moving machine.
Old Business:
Circus: Eldon LiaBraaten said that Don Litwiller has agreed to let the circus use the same location as before. However, Lisa Reinmann had not heard back from the circus contact person about their availability for September 1. Lisa will contact volunteers once she finds out if the circus is indeed coming to town.
Eldon LiaBraaten said there was no business spotlight this month. If anyone is interested in presenting a spotlight soon, let a board member know.
New Business:
Kat Arnold shared that she had recently attended a city council meeting as an EBA representative.
Business Update:
Rick Robinson said that Main Street Technologies is offering a Beginning Excel class. Call 467-6246 for more information.
Jim Fyke said there would be a public meeting about the fate of the Woodford County Health Department on Tuesday, July 24.
Discussion ensued about the business vacancies around Eureka, and how the EBA can be more proactive in small business retention and growth. Members also brainstormed about ways they can bring more tourism to Eureka. An e-mail list was passed around so that interested people could stay in touch.
