History and
General Information

Chartered by the Illinois Legislature in 1855, Eureka was the first college in the state and third in the nation to admit men and women on an equal basis.  Throughout its long history, Eureka College has been affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and continues as an institution of arts and sciences, emphasizing a Christian-orientated liberal education.  The College has never wavered from this purpose.

Eureka
's campus is a wooded 112 acres with 24 buildings, an open-air theatre, an arboretum, and facilities for football, baseball, softball, tennis, and swimming.  The College is situated within 30 miles of the two metropolitan centers of Peoria and Bloomington-Normal. 

Eureka College has had a major impact on American life, with alumni who have had successful careers in education, business, management, the arts and community service.  Eureka
's most famous graduate is Ronald Reagan, Class of 1932, who went on to become the fortieth President of the United States of America.

Community Unit School District

The District Administrative Offices are located at 109 West Cruger Avenue, Eureka, IL 61530.

Regular Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Administrative - Pre-K Center at 109 W. Cruger Ave., Eureka, IL.

The Community Unit School District No. 140 encompasses the communities of Congerville, Eureka, and Goodfield, which totals an area of 113 square miles.

The curriculum throughout the school district emphasizes the basics while preparing students for general education and higher education. Approximately 80% of the district's graduates enroll in some form of higher education after high school. Our students have succeeded at some of the most respected colleges and universities throughout the country.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

The educational service of the Community Unit #140 School System is organized and maintained as a unified program of instruction to be operated as a single system. Although the schools shall operate as a single system, they shall be diversified in their offerings in terms of community educational needs, as well as varied to individual needs of children and youth.

The district is organized on a Kindergarten, 4-4-4 plan. Primary schools are organized on a modified self-contained classroom basis and normally include kindergarten through fourth grade, operating under a continuous progressive plan. The Middle School is planned to house grades five through eight with the High School housing grades nine through twelve.

All buildings, buses and property owned by District 140 exist in a tobacco free environment.

The Tazewell-Woodford Head Start Program is a Federal program for preschool children from low-income families.  Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically.  They also receive free medical and dental care and have healthy meals and snacks.
